Public connector documentation · Version 1.0.0 · Last updated 20 October 2026
WRDO’s public connector lets AI tools find local businesses in the Western Cape, read their published price lists and menus, and hand a person over to WRDO to get it done.
Authentication: none. The connector serves public directory data only.
Add WRDO to your AI app
Paste this address: https://api.wrdo.co.za/mcp. No sign-in is needed.
Claude: open Customize > Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector. Paste the address and choose “No sign in”.
ChatGPT: open Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins), select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server, and paste the address. Your account or workspace settings may need to allow custom servers.
Perplexity: open Plugins, click Add custom > Connector > Add MCP connector, choose Remote, paste the address and set authentication to None. On an organisation account, an admin must first allow members to add custom connectors.
Any other app: in any app that lets you add an MCP server or connector by URL, paste the address above.
Other MCP clients: add the server to the client’s MCP configuration. For a client that takes a remote server URL, the entry looks like this:
The connector has four tools. All four are read-only (each is annotated readOnlyHint). None of them books, charges or creates an account.
search_local_businesses Read-only
Finds local businesses by what they do or by name, optionally in a town or suburb.
Inputs
what (required, 2 to 80 characters, for example “plumber” or “pizza”); where (optional, a town or suburb, up to 60 characters); limit (optional, whole number from 1 to 20, default 10; a larger number is capped at 20).
Returns
A list of businesses, each with id, name, category, area, verified (the owner has claimed the page), page_url and start_url (a link that opens WRDO with that business filled in, or null). It also returns source and, when nothing matches, a message. It returns no contact details.
get_business Read-only
One business’s public WRDO page.
Inputs
id (required, a WRDO business id from search_local_businesses, starting lbiz_).
Returns
id, name, category, area, verified, page_url, start_url, last_checked and source. For a verified business it also returns the details the owner published: description, address, website, facebook_url, menu_url and hours. Never a phone number or email address.
get_price_list Read-only
A business’s price list or menu, for any kind of business (salon, barber, nails, beauty, restaurant).
Inputs
id (required, a WRDO business id from search_local_businesses).
Returns
business (id, name, category, area), sections (each with a title and items: name, description, price_zar in rand and, for services, duration_min), prices_confirmed, price_note, item_count, truncated, page_url and source. An empty list means WRDO has no prices for that business yet.
start_request Read-only
Gets a link the person opens in WRDO to ask for a quote, booking or order, optionally from one business.
Inputs
what (required, 2 to 80 characters); business_id (optional, a WRDO business id); when (optional, up to 60 characters, in the person’s own words, for example “Saturday morning”).
Returns
start_url and a message. It only returns a link. The person opens it in WRDO and finishes there. Nothing is booked or paid through the connector.
03Data and privacy
What it returns
Only public directory information: a business’s name, category, area, public page link, verified flag and published prices. For a business whose owner has claimed its page, also the details the owner chose to publish (description, address, website, Facebook link, menu link and opening hours). It never returns phone numbers, email addresses or any person’s personal information.
What it cannot reach
It does not read any WRDO user’s account, chats, bookings or payment data. It takes no login and no credentials.
Price labels. Prices taken from a business’s own website are marked prices_confirmed: false with the note “From their website: prices not confirmed”.
Where data goes
The WRDO servers that answer the connector, and the database behind them, run in the European Union (the API server in Finland and the database in Sweden).
Tool answers go to whichever AI service the person is using, and that service may process them outside South Africa. The answers contain only public business information as published by the businesses: no personal information about any person, and no phone numbers or emails.
The question the AI service sends to us (for example “pizza in Stellenbosch”) is processed by WRDO in the European Union. The words of the question are used to find an answer and are not written to our logs (see below).
No WRDO user’s account, chats, bookings or payment data is reachable through the connector.
What is logged
For each call WRDO logs: the source tag public_mcp, the request type (for example tools/call), the tool name, the size of the request in bytes, how long it took, and whether the call was rate limited. WRDO does not log what was sent to a tool (the search words, business ids or dates), the answer, or the caller’s IP address or any hash of it.
Requests reach WRDO through Cloudflare. To apply the rate limit, a short-lived counter is kept against the caller’s network address (an IPv6 caller is grouped by its /64 range). The counter expires after 60 seconds and is not written to the logs.
Connector logs sit on WRDO’s servers in the European Union (Helsinki, Finland). They rotate automatically: they are capped at 30 MB and deleted whenever the service is updated, which happens several times a week.
Rate limits
30 requests per minute for each caller. Beyond that the connector answers HTTP 429 with a retryAfter of 60 seconds. Each request is one message of up to 16 KB; batched messages are refused. The connector keeps no session between requests.
The Western Cape, starting in Cape Town and the Winelands. For a place outside the Western Cape, a search returns no results and says so: “WRDO covers the Western Cape only; no listings for that place.”
05Agent-to-agent (A2A)
WRDO also answers other agents over A2A (JSON-RPC), with the same public data and the same limit of 30 requests per minute.
